We have come across some jottings Dad made, in order to fill in a Memory Book given as a gift in 1999, some amusing answers!

Name & Nickname: ROBERT ALFRED MIELL known as 'Bob'

Date of birth etc: 11th April 1930 - SOUTHAMPTON

Distinguishing etc: SHORT STATURE (but well formed!)

Typical Family Characteristics: Who should say? Thrift was a necessity.

Best Friends: Mostly from like sportsminded individuals. Numerous

Childhood Homes: Various, with parents in Southampton & with foster parents during 1939/45 war in Bournemouth

Significant Memories of Parents: Poor but honest, hard working

Favourite games: Cricket, Football, having been engaged actively & administratively, since school days at TAUNTONS SCHOOL

Pets: -

Significant Childhood Memories: During war - Evacuation from So'ton. Blitzing of Southampton & destruction of home

Special Friends: Those from Taunton's Grammar School in 1941/46 with whom he is still in touch in 1999

Memories of School & Teachers: Little remembrance of Primary schools in So'ton - learned independence from age of 11. War caused Disruptive schooling. No great scholar Preferred games! Dr Horace King  (later to become SPEAKER in House of Commons) taught English.

1st Job: obtained post with Commercial Union Assu Co immediately on leaving Tauntons School - 19th August 1946

1st Pay: JUNIOR CLERK - ANNUAL salary £90

When proposed: In 1953. Forgotten - Ask your mother

First impression: Kindred spirit. Another quiet Insurance Junior.

favourite Sports etc: Cricket, Football, Snooker, & most other spectator sports

Holiday etc: FRANCE

Memorable Events: Called up for National Service, 1948/1950. Births of David, Susan & Lisa Miell in '57, '62 & '68.

Major Ambitions: To survive a few more years yet in good health
